We all know that Tamil film industry and movie halls in TN were shattered from October 5th-17th with no new releases and poor occupancy respectively, due to the double taxation in addition to GST. Not only tamil films, even English & other Indian language movies couldn’t release in our theatres because of the atrocious entertainment tax by the state Government. In the gap, Hollywood films like “BLADE RUNNER 2049”, “VICTORIA & ABDUL”, “THE LEGO NINJAGO” and “THE FOREIGNER” released in whole India except Tamil Nadu. Also Aamir Khan’s bollywood drama “SECRET SUPERSTAR” released worldwide other than Tamil Nadu on the Diwali week. But now the double taxation issue has taken the lighter side as known by the negotiations between industry people and Government. Now, other than GST Tamil films will have 8% ET, other Indian language films will have 15% ET and English films will have to pay 20% ET. But this rule was convinced only when the theatre ticket prices were hiked and flexible rates came to place. And now, all problems regarding it are completely sorted out.
The good news is that all English and other language films will be released as usual from now on in TN. Also the left over releases like “SECRET SUPERSTAR”, “BLADE RUNNER 2049”, “VICTORIA & ABDUL” and “THE LEGO NINJAGO” will be releasing on October 27th (Friday) in Tamil Nadu. And Jackie Chan’s “THE FOREIGNER” will be releasing next Friday (ie) on November 3rd in TN. Finally, a good moment for the film buffs out here.
