After Vasanth takes the help of Moorthy, a senior officer, to get a promotion at work and gets hitched with Meena his love interest but whereas Moorthy takes advantage of the situation and traps Vasanth in the brutal death of inspector and a suicidal of a woman. When Moorthy dies, Vasanth realizes that there’s someone else involved in the whole situation. Can Vasanth crack this complex case and find a solution to get his promotion & marriage.
Vaibhav and Venkat Prabhu give an impressive performance as the cops; Vaibhav as Vasanth as good cop & Venkat Prabhu as Moorthy as bad cop both of them engages well with their performance with cat and mouse game; Apart from VP and Vaibhav Easwari as the senior police officer has done justice to her part. Her performance is neat as a tough cop & Poorna has done a fine job as the maid whereas the story revolves around the character of Poorna; Vani Bhojan, who plays Vaibhav’s lady love has a very limited screen presence there is no scope to perform in the film where she fails to impress.
Lockup is promised as a crime thriller genre were as they tried to make justice to the genre; special mention to the director for his non-linear narration. Whereas he tried keeping the audience to get engaged in most parts. As some parts fail to be predictable and engage; Dialogues in the film is another plus, A strong dialogue at the end of the movie where Poorna’s father character says “To kill an innocent human, we are not cops,” is sure to convey the ‘Police Brutality’ in the movie. A Suspense filled murder mystery ride with an emotional subplot that works.
Arrol Corelli music fails to give the support to the genre of crime thriller where totally music doesn’t maintain the mood throughout the film there aren’t any songs in ‘Lockup’ just for the one and that too moves like a flash and cinematography Santhanam Sekar has done good work but struggles at some point to showcase the film; Editor has done a fantastic job as the duration is crisp and runtime makes a good watch, but on the term technically movie fails to impress.
‘Lockup’ indeed does justice to its genre. There is no much deviation from the plot and it indeed makes you glued to the screen for the entire duration of 1 hour and 46 minutes. Finally a better OTT outing in Tamil.
